    Can i achieve this structure without breaking too much?

    category <- attention here! 🙂

    I found the post meta data at the volatyl_post_meta() function, in byline.php file.

    Could this be modified outside the volatyl core?

    This is not a must have for me, just wondering how to do this.

    Sorry for the delay! This is definitely possible.

    The way you override templates (this is the single post template) is explained here.

    Basically, you just need to create a folder in your child theme root called “templates” and copy the content-single.php file from Volatyl into that folder of your child theme.

    From there, WordPress will use your child theme’s version of that file instead of Volatyl’s. That means you can make all the changes you want to the HTML structure or the PHP.

    With your specific request, you’re wanting to take a portion of the volatyl_post_meta() output and move it somewhere else. That will actually be a little more involved but definitely still possible.

    What I would do is leave the volatyl_post_meta() function in place and turn off the categories byline option in the Volatyl Content Settings. Then, in the content-single.php file you copied into your child theme, find:

    // Show feed tags

    …and directly above it, add…

    // relocation of category listing
    echo '<div class="entry-meta"><span class="cat-title">' . __('Filed under:', 'volatyl') . '</span> <span class="meta-category">';
    the_category(', ');
    echo '</span></div>';

    Then you should be good to go form there with complete control over the categories. Let me know if this works for you.

    Awesome! Be sure to take a look at the other files in the templates folder for an idea of what else you can control. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
